It finally feels like fall here in Southern California!! I love when the seasons change…. Not only in the weather but also when flowers change. I tend to embrace the change even if it is only with the colors of containers I use and some accents. There are some crowd favorites that I tend to gravitate towards for my local hospital accounts but by pairing them with different accents and darker container to give a more fall feel.
Below are some of the more traditional arrangements from this week.
Then we have some more stylized arrangements….. and some horizontal ones!
It is AMAZING how many pictures I accumulate on my phone! I decided that I actually need to get them off my phone just in case I drop my phone in water (again, knock on wood I don’t)! I found quite a few great arrangements that you may have only seen if you follow me on Instagram (@JacquelineAhne) and some I have not shared yet….
The two arrangements below are in the same low black dish. Play on the textures of sunflowers, with or without petals.
This Bright Arrangement has tones of color, texture and depth….. Perfect for a get well!
A modern spin on an all calla lily arrangement…. I LOVE THE WIRED WOOL!!
This Unique color combo really appealed to me…. I always love the dark mini calla lilies but pairing them with the very spring colors of the naked ladies and the mini gerberas looks just amazing!
And last but not least…. a VERY unique color combo for a “funky and spunky” woman…. I have always loved zinnias and they shine in this arrangement.
I love when couples have an AWESOME venue! This wedding was held above a restaurant in Venice. It had so much charm and unique elements… I just loved it! Some of the pictures were taken around the venue and you can see the unique feel it had! The whole wedding consisted of about 30 guests that enjoyed the informal ceremony on the rooftop. It was SUCH a hot day so I hope the breeze picked up!
The bride carried a crescent bouquet made from dahlias, calla lilies and roses accented with AMAZING leaves.
The Bridesmaids wore grey dresses and carried a mix of white calla lilies and open white roses. They stems were covered in grey ribbon accented with gold wire for a modern feel.
The personal flowers were created with mini calla lilies and accented with gold wire.
Around the area we placed a few cylinders filled with submerged calla lilies.
And then there is the sky light! This was on the rooftop and looked into the kitchen. I t was pretty neat! We placed some tea light candles and looped calla lilies around the ledge.
In July I traveled to Miami where I participated in the Professional Floral Design Evaluation for AIFD (AIFD.org). I have tested for AIFD twice before both times getting EXTREMELY close to passing. This time was different…. All of my scores qualified me to PASS the evaluation! Needless to say I am excited beyond belief….
The evaluation consisted on creating 5 arrangements in various categories. Here are the details:
The Duplication design- we were given a printed picture of a hand tied arrangement. It was difficult to see all the details in the picture, but I was very happy with how it came out…. I received a score of 4.0
The Sympathy Arrangement- A standing easel….. I used a bouquet holder instead of the traditional floral foam cage. I was really happy with how this arrangement turned out and I was surprised this was my lowest scoring piece with a 3.78
The Wedding Arrangement- A Ring Bearer Pillow…. They had provided a white traditional pillow and I knew I did not want to use it. This was one of my time consuming piece but also one of my favorites. As soon as I knew we needed to have a ring bearer pillow I knew what I wanted to do right away!! I loved how it turned out! My score was 4.20
Flowers to Wear- A floral Necklace… I love flowers to wear!! This turned out so fun and even had a way to connect it! Fun fun fun…. My score 4.12
The Arrangement- an Arrangement for a cocktail table…. I was pretty worried that I may have made this arrangement to tall. Typically a cocktail table it a 36 inch pub table. This was my highest score! 4.24
AIFD is something that I have wanted to do for many years. It is hard to describe how I feel but I feel validated as a floral designer. I have had such a great career already and in just a short 8 years. I have worked with and learned from so many wonderful designers here in California and even spent some time in Germany. I am just so pleased that I will be taking my career to the next level.
Every so often I get to play with some flowers that are considered premium flowers….
First is a weekly with some peonies accented with looped eucalyptus, accented with a single green spider mum and bright orange rose.
Next is another weekly made in a classic style urn from a mix of foliage, babies breathe and a few stems of mini phalaenopsis orchids.
Last be defiantly not least, a stylized minimalist arrangement made from a kiwi vine, bamboo, spray roses and three mini phalaenopsis orchids.
I have been really busy this week and just wanted to share some of my favorite arrangements.
First: I love the soft colors of this arrangement and the cymbidium orchids of course! Perfect for a new baby!
Second: This was a very tall “showy” piece for its price point. The color of these gerbs was just amazing!
Next: A simple grouped arrangement made from dendrobium orchids and accented with succulents.
And Last but not least: This traditional arrangement in one of my customer’s vase. What I love about the arrangement is texture and the contrast. When I saw these mini carnations I just had to get them! I normally do not use carnations a lot but they added a lot to this arrangement.
I made this arrangement today for a get well arrangement. I have to say, I loved it! It was so bright and cheery with a unique twist. The vase was about 12 inches tall and the overall arrangement almost 30 inches tall! There were two types of orchids, sweet William, spray roses, kale, stock, gerbera daisies, ti leaves and kiwi vine.
When “spring flowers” are mentioned most people think of bright oranges, pink, yellow and lavenders. This arrangement is made of hyacinth and mini calla lilies which are both spring bulb flowers but the deep tones really make it a wonderfully dramatic arrangement! I just love all this arrangement and it is my favorite arrangement I made this week!
Last week I got a shipment of new ceramics from one of my favorite wholesalers. They are located on the east coast so I do not order for them a lot. I found the perfect excuse when I was on the hunt for some copper colored vases for a very special wedding in July. WELL I found some AWESOME vases for their wedding and I also purchased a couple hundred vases for the studio. The vase that I used for the arrangement below was a last minute splurge. They retail for $8 each and a mainly for a small arrangement but they pack so much style and spunk, I HAD to get them!
Here is one of my first arrangements with the vase. I love the colors and textures! Pretty happy with it!
