Queen Mary Bridal Show!

We spent Sunday at the Queen Mary Bridal Show by the Bridal Showplace. So of course we talked flowers all day which I always have a blast doing! We met MANY awesome couple and discussed some really unique and fun color themes! One that I really liked was burnt orange, cream and gray…. Granted I have always loved gray but it feels so fresh and modern with the burnt orange and cream!

We did host the “vote for your favorite bridal bouquet” contest again and the results were pretty close! We always try to guess which bouquet is going to be the favorite and usually we are pretty close but this time I was surprised which bouquet was the winner!  The one I thought would be the winner came in a close second place….

This time I designed 8 bouquets that we encouraged Brides and their families to vote on. 63% of the votes were from brides and we had 4 grooms participate.

The winning bouquet was #8 which was created from fall colors and include three shades of dahlias, two shades of cox comb, scabiosa, button mums and was finished off with burlap and a vintage bracelet.

The runner-up was #2 created from white and mini green hydrangea, peach roses and metallic succulent.

My personal favorite was #3 which was more of a nautical theme created from anthiriums, scabiosa, delphinium, thistle and dahlias.

SO…. Now to announce the contest winner….. Winning a $250 for flowers for ANY occasion is Cristina C. getting married on May 10th 2014! She voted for bouquet number 8.

This year we have been working with Something Turquoise (www.SomethingTurquoise.com) to bring “bouquet blueprints”. Each of the bouquets that were at the bridal show will be featured on the site with matching boutonnieres, information on availability and care as well as the recipe. It is definitely a fun project and I am glad Jen selected me to be part of it!

Rehearsal Dinner!

The rehearsal is often over looked when flowers are concerned however NOT for Kelli and Peter! When Peter’s Parents were planning the rehearsal dinner they wanted everything to be perfect…. From the food and room to the flowers and of course the super cute word searches! We went with a bright color them that mimicked the colors of the wedding (navy blue, copper, Ivory) and used the same type of flowers that would be used the following Saturday. For a very modern feel we went with ceramic cube vases in ivory and cement filled with a mix of royal blue hydrangea, open roses and dahlias all accented with wide open flat wire and looped flax leaves.

Since Kelli and I have been extremely close since we were 3 , I had to go above and beyond when it came to the traditional rehearsal bouquet. I did not want to do a bouquet with the ribbons attached to the paper plate so I created origami flowers from the wrapping paper from the shower. I used the ribbons underneath the bouquet as well as in the center of the flowers.  I got slightly carried away making flowers and made too many! So instead of wasting them I made small bouquets for the bridesmaids. Each was slightly different since all of us girls were going to be wearing different colors.

Coming soon…. THE WEDDING!

Bridal Shower for an AMAZING Friend

Last summer I had the pleasure of being Maid of Honor in a wedding. I have known the bride since we were literally 3 years old. Growing up she always felt like a sister but even better! We talk on the phone way too much (okay, there is NO such thing as too much) and have the kind of relationship that no matter what we are going through happy sad or bored, the other is always there! With that being said, the pressure was on to host (alongside her mom) an awesome Bridal Shower!

We planned for weeks; décor, games (nothing to cheesy or embracing) and food. We finally agreed that classic and elegant was the way to go! The focus of the décor was large pillars of balloons in three different white shades. It was an inviting yet classic look that turned out perfect! We selected a color palette of peach, pale green and white for the flowers.

Some other details around the shower included handmade candle favors (that was an interesting afternoon around my house….) and cloth napkins I sewed. And you WILL see the wrapping paper again…. after all there is no way I would just stick ribbons on a plate for the rehearsal!

We had a wonderful day!

Queen Mary Bridal Fair!

We had a blast last Sunday at the Queen Mary Bridal Fair. Met a lot of awesome bride and discussed flowers and themes, which were all so diverse and fun! Also met some new vendors and saw familiar faces from past bridal shows!

The “vote for your favorite bouquet” contest was a hit again this show and I was truly surprised by the numbers! There was no clear winner with the top three bouquets all being within 7 votes of each other! There were a total of 126 votes 79 of which were brides! We even had 4 Grooms vote! I always love when I see the Grooms get involved! The winner of the $250 raffle for flowers for ANY occasion is Anna S. who is getting married on 5-25-13!

The top three bridal bouquets were:

#6- Burgundy Orchids accented with dahlias and white anemones with 27 votes

#8- Purple lissianthus accented with looped bear grass, lily grass and peacock sword feathers with 24 votes

#3- white to hot pink ombre roses with 20 votes.

All of the bouquets were so different and unique it was so much fun to see what people were picking up and playing with!

In the next few days I will be posting some very helpful information about Manzanita tree centerpieces as well as submerged flower centerpieces! Two very popular looks!

Thank you to all the Brides, Grooms, Moms and friends that voted for their favorite Bridal Bouquet! And a HUGE thank you to the Bridal Showplace for hosting another wonderful Bridal fair!Queen Mary Bridal Show- 1/6/13 Floral Design By Jacqueline Ahne

Newsletter Newsletter Newsletter!

One thing I want to expand in 2013 is my Newsletter.

YES, I have a monthly Newsletter I send out.

YES, it does have a small reader base which I am hoping to expand.

What does the Newsletter include? GREAT question…

It varies from month to month however there is always an “inspiration from the web” section where I share link to interesting articles, photo shoots, DIY’s or inspiration boards.  See below for the December Issue!

Floral Design By Jacqueline Ahne- December 2012 Newsletter

Floral Design By Jacqueline Ahne- Dec 2012 Newsletter

A new feature that I have recently included is a more informative section. For the December 2012 Newsletter I included the “Emerald Inspiration” based on Pantone’s 2013 color of the year choice. The info that I put together is a great example of what green flowers are available and what colors look fantastic with green! See below for the info!

2012 in Review

When this year started off I had no idea it would be as successful and happy as it was! I am truly thankful for all my wonderful clients who made it possible for the business to be a success. This year we took part in over 45 events. Each of my Brides was unique and fun to work with! There were multiple cascade bouquets (and even a Crescent bouquet!!) as well as a wide range of colors.

Some trends I have notices:

  • White is coming back… There were many events that had white flowers as a focus.

  • Blue Blue Blue! Blue has always been a huge color for wedding but in 2012 I saw more blue weddings then another year!!

  • Fun with Feathers…. Two weddings this year used feathers as accents (not including the multiple weddings I provided boutonnieres for via Etsy!).

There were also two weddings in my Family…. My sister-in-law married her hubby in September and my Best friend was married in July.  My sister-in-law’s very personal wedding was on the blog here: https://floraldesignbyjacquelineahne.wordpress.com/2012/11/09/daisies-and-diamonds-photographed-by-brian-hawkins-photography/

And My Best friend’s wedding has yet to be shared on the blog….. it will be shared soon…. It was amazing! But I may be slightly bias….

I also had the opportunity to work with Jen from Something Turquoise for a new feature on her blog; Bouquet Blueprint as well as the Valentine’s inspiration shoot and my top 10 ideas for planning your wedding flowers. All the pictures below are by Mike at Studio Eleven Weddings.

2012 something tur

It is amazing to see that there were 52,000 views on my blog from people in 149 countries….

I posted 71 blogs (not including this one) with 742 pictures total….

I joined Pinterest as well as Instagram and have become slightly addicted to both!

I was published in a couple of magazines and I was accepted to be inducted to AIFD in 2013. Both of which are HUGE!

What is in store for 2013? Good question…. I have many things that are in the works:

  • Get to know more about me…. What is my style and favorite influence? Tours of the studio….
  • Weddings film clips…. Quick videos of the set up at weddings and events posted to Facebook.
  • More informative posts…. Questions to ask while planning your table; inspirations for specific types of flowers or colors; advise on creating a timeline (from me, a former Bride and a current wedding vendor!)
  • And a few surprises!

To each of my readers, Brides (past, present and future), friends and family I wish you a wonderful 2013 filled with happiness and success! Cheers!!

My Sister-In-Law Got Married!!

There were SO many details for Matt and Cindy’s “Diamond and Daisies” wedding so when it finally came to pictures there are so many to consider!

The wedding was at Long Beach Museum of Art which was a perfect backdrop for their wedding! We used “diamond” ribbon on the bouquet handles, the centerpieces and other places throughout the wedding. Also there were many Gems throughout though everything!

All the personal flowers were created form a mix of orchids, daisies, roses, gerbera daisies, hydrangea and calla lilies.

The arch was gorgeous and perfect framed the couple! We hung gem garland to catch the light and add the touch of shine.

The Aisle had daisy clusters on the chairs and petal with daisy heads to walk on. Cones filled with petals were on each chair to toss petal while the newlyweds walked back down the aisle.

The Cocktail and Dinner tables had similar arrangement with a mix of hydrangea, gerbera daisies and white traditional daisies.

The head table had multiple arrangements down the edge the table with a mix of candles and gems.

Wishing Cindy and Matt a wonderful Happily-ever-after!

And then there is a great picture of my husband and I during the reception! He was SO sick and I was extremely tired but we are one good looking couple! 😉
